Maybe there right?
Silver earring collection......wire diamonds? Why not. |
Well for this particular work they are............Soooo after my last post, exploring the simpler side of my jewellery. I decided to make a range of silver pieces. Although these pieces are silver which totally contradicts my concept of taking objects and materials with no obvious worth and reworking them into a precious object, I decided to make the silver range inspired by my more flamboyant, larger and conceptual work, so that these silver pieces are more wearable. I have also made my open stone set in silver to, I'm in love with the pear shaped earrings. I also had my last day in the workshop yesterday, so guess its time to give my bench up to another student. The weeks are going so fast, I'm struggling to know which day I am on. But dont worry I still will be making and collecting ideas for my more flamboyant pieces, as thats what I have a passion for.

They say less is more?
Just a few things that I have been playing around with in the workshop. Inspired by my classic diamond shape mark, that is featured on all the backs of my current work. A wire classic diamond shape earring which I think I love as its constantly in my ear, 5 pairs of traditional diamond shaped earrings to come, my silver finally came yayyy!!! I'm hoping people will mix and match them up, I'm not a fan of matching pairs. Also to the side of my earring, my brooch which was meant to be a quick 10 min thing just to do, but took about an hour as I kept messing it up even though I've done this 'stone set' a billion times, very frustrating, just wanted a simple stone set brooch to make my concept even more obvious!!! without the diamond the stone set is actually really pretty and without the stone set how would we wear diamonds? hmmmm think it may be too simple and the pin is pathetic, so tomorrow I intend to increase the thickness of the pin and also pop one of my flocked dome of dreams in it just to make it more me. But the blank stone set brooch is something that I shall keep in mind for future.

Tah Dahhhhhhhh!!!! one final piece.......
and 9 others to come hopefully.....! 2 weeks to go until I STOP making arghhh!!! This is a photo I had taken Tuesday, its has a piece from my butterfly collection but also a brand new piece from my new collection, which hasn't got a name as of yet. This piece can be worn anywhere on the body as its all about magnets! Over the next week or 2 I will be uploading various images of my new pieces. I am extremely stressed as today we had to choice our image for the postcards, (plus to add to the stress I hate computers) this above image is my chosen one, but I have cropped it to make the 'diamonds' more in your face, as that's what my work is about: bold, colour and massive so fingers crossed it looks good as I have 1000 postcards hello every ones future Christmas, birthday cards for many years to come. Dreammmmmmm.

Glitter and leopard print dreams!!!!
Not really anything to do with my work, but thought I would share my new beautiful trainers with everyone. I haven't actually worn them outside yet as I don't want to spoil their beauty.
Flock and stone sets
Finally my flock arrived! I have fallen in love, managed to do a few stone sets, creating my own large scale cabochons. I love the bright colours, this mixed with my silk and enamel spray hollow forms will look amazing...... I hope.

Colour and repetitiveness and maybe a sneak preview.....
few pictures of my colour palette and my new silk material which is amazing and some pictures of my hook and eyes, that i've been making like crazy! also a sneak preview of one of the potential stackable bracelets, hope you like.......
Busy, Busy, Busy!!
I went home for 2 weeks, to relax, which I needed!!!! but it wasn't all rest and relaxation, I finally sent my perspex domes off to the flockers, so fingers crossed, they come back amazing or there will be major tears. Sadly it wasn't all making and drawing, I had to write and research my business plan, its done!!!!!!! there was too many numbers involved for my liking, I bash metal and make pretty things, I was sat on my parents living room floor with lots of paper and a calculator, I don't think I've used a calculator since my GCSE's which was a fair few years ago, rant over as its DONE!
Anyway onto fun and colourful pieces, also while I was at my parents I have finally chosen my colour palette and also bought silk for my collection, the colours are inspired from me and my clothes and my love of clashing, so I feel its quite personal to me (pictures of silk and colours too come soon)
I decided to come back a week early from my Easter break, as the workshops were open up at folly so I took full advantage of this opportunity, and have been making my diamond shaped press forms as well as hook and eyes as a cold fixing method, extremely repetitive but really enjoyable to make! And I have sprayed the press forms, so I am waiting for them to dry, there so colourful all very exciting! soooooo been a very busy week, but I have nearly finished my stackable bracelets! Oooo also I will be playing around with magnets as a fastening method, and have found some really strong ones, so hopefully they will work and finish my pieces off.

Plastic or metal?
I have been playing around with colour onto metal since my 2nd year. And I have finally put it to good use within my 3rd year. In my first project of the 3rd year, I focused on flock and used 3 mains colours: turquoise, blue and pink (very Miami vice) But in my last ever uni project arghhhh! I'm going for it, as its my last project, sooooooo I have decided to use spray enamel, as I hate the proper way of enamelling (kilns are far too hot for my liking) plus the effect given is amazing. It looks like it could be plastic, but in fact the 3D hollow form is made from my favourite metal guilding metal and coated with a grey primer, then the spray enamel is applied. I am in love with this simple way off adding colour. watch this space more colours coming soon.
Design, design and ping pong ball madness!
Well my inspiration levels have been at an all time low, I forgot how I design. But after a group crit, the idea of painted footballs came up to help me visualise. Soooooooooo I ended up chopping ping pong balls and tennis balls up for quite a while, and painting them white so they are all neutral and boring!! I ended up pining them all over me in various ways. I think my creativity maybe back.........

Final collection - butterfly backs!
This is my first project of 3rd year. My whole concept is about taking the forgotten objects of the jewellery world and the textiles world and bringing them to the forefront. In this particular collection I have taken the humble earring back, enlarged it and made it the actual jewellery instead of the functional piece. I have used a mixture of guilding metal, silver, gold plating and flock.
